NAOMBA SERIKALI ASAIDIE (I am Pleading for Government's Help)

If Only the Government was an Individual...... “Naomba serikali isaidie (I am pleading for Government’s help)”, is a phrase that has been heard so many times in this country. It is a phrase that has been used in all manner of situations when my fellow citizens are in problems or ‘problems’. The term has been very common to an extent that it now part of ringtones. Sometimes I feel we plead for Government’s help even in situations we can tackle on our own. For example, my people from this part of the country were pleading for government’s help because they didn’t have vegetables in dry season. I found it unnecessary because just below their lands were streams flowing with water. All my fellow brethren could do was to build a shade for their vegetables and fetch water 200meteres away to water them. So my question was, ‘What is the government supposed to do for them?”. Send a troop to go fetch water for them? Send people to put up shades? What exactly was expected to be done by the go...

The Power of a Voucher

The Power of a voucher For the first time in 30 years I had 3 vouchers given to me as a Christmas gift from my husband. It felt great. For those who are more familiar with using the voucher may be thinking I am outdated or in a Kenyan context it would be 'mshamba'. But it doesn't matter as I got to enjoy the moment. This is money  inform of a paper that you need to present to a store and you get anything you want. I thought of everything that I would like to buy with those vouchers. I decided that I would use one voucher to buy something for myself, something unique, something ecstatic, something I have never seen, something wonderful. It is as if I wanted somethi ng that has been invented that day, something new, something that no one has ever seen. After all I wasn't going to be strict on the budget, as long as its price fell within the voucher amount I was o.k with it. I chose this particular day after working half day to go shop.
