The Battle of Jericho

Joshua 6:1:27
Bishop Adipo always insisted we should not read the bible like a story book but we should try and put ourselves in the shoes of those in the story. Joshua 6:1-27 narrates the story of how Israelites under the leadership of Joshua won the battle over the army of Jericho when the walls of Jericho broke down. This happened when Joshua was instructed lead the Israelites in matching around Jericho wall once every day but on the seventh day they were to match seven times, and on the seventh round they were to shout and praise the Lord. The amazing miracle happened; the famous strong and thick wall of Jericho came tumbling down.
Let’s think about it literally. Joshua is our leader and we are supposed to conquer the city of Jericho. But the history says it is impossible to go through the famous wall of Jericho because its height is like a four storey building and so wide that the chariots rally are taking place on it (in our case it would be safari rally). It could have been either 2 or 3 lane wide). Picture this, all of us are stressed out wondering what strategies we should use to go through Jericho wall, our army is trying to get modern weapons which seem impossible then our leader Joshua summons us for a meeting to discuss the strategy. Then Joshua says, ‘While I was praying God gave me a strategy’. So we all get excited so we ask, ‘are we going to bomb it? What are we going to do?”. So we give Joshua all the ideas we have in mind. But he says, ‘No, this is what God says we should do. We will only go round the wall of Jericho once a day every day and on the seventh day we will go round seven times and on the last round we will shout, make noise and praise God. Then the wall of Jericho will shake and break down?
All of us would stare at Joshua in shock. We would ask ‘Where on earth did he get that stupid idea from? What would you think? Literally, I would think Joshua is out his mind or is drunk. How would going round the wall shake it down serious Joshua? Don’t you think bombing it is more logical? What will people think of us? The army of Jericho will laugh at us. I think it was not easy for the people of Israel and even Joshua to take a step and do what was seen as one of the most stupid strategies in the battle. But their trust in God resulted in the wall of Jericho breaking down. God can use the most despised person or idea to do greater things.

Nothing Leaves God’s Hand until Something Leaves Your Hand

Give Generously The principle of giving and receiving is as real as the law of gravity and law of attraction. It is a formulae to especially financial blessing. You cannot change a laid down formulae. Just like when you add 2+2 you get 4 and not 8 you cannot receive without giving.   Luke 6:38 says ”GIVE, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your lap. For with the same measure that you measure it shall be measured to you again”.   When you give people also give back to you and God will ensure that you receive in double portion. According to Revelation 18:6 , you will be given back what you have given and you will be paid back double what you have done. The awesome thing about God is the principle of giving and receiving is the same as the principle of sowing and reaping or harvesting.   When you give   it comes back to you multiplied. If you plant one seed of maize you will...

God Always Has a Greater Plan for You

My ten months old son throws tantrums every time I snatch something from his hand that I know is dangerous if he continues playing with. Everything that he comes across he wants to put in his mouth including dirty shoes and sharp objects. He wants to play with the socket but I know that is dangerous and so I don’t allow him to play with it. He throws tantrums and cries because he thinks I am denying something good from him. But I know everything that seems attractive to him is not good and some are dangerous. Putting dirty shoes in his mouth may cause diarrhea, sharp objects may prick him and sockets may electrify him. He may cry all he wants but as a mother who loves him I will not give him something that will hurt him. In the same way, we as the children of God we have desires and things we want to have, and we believe God to give us those things. Sometimes we don’t get what we have prayed for or what we desire from God simply not because He doesn’t want us to have them, but ...

Women Christian Men Should Never Marry

Last time I talked about “Christian WomenShould Never Marry These Men” . Today it’s time to bring to limelight the women Christian women should never marry. Marriage is not a place you want to try and see if things will work but it is a lifetime commitment. It is the will of God that two married people live together happily ever after until death does them apart. However, choices lead to consequences which may either be positive or negative. The kind of a woman you choose as a wife will either make you live happily or will become a disaster to you. I may not exhaust everything but the following are the types of women Christian men should never marry. 1.     The Unbeliever I reminded women that 2 Corinthians 6:14 say “Do not be yoked with unbelievers, what business righteousness and lawlessness or what does light with darkness have in common? This means whether a woman or a man you should not marry an unbeliever. A wife who loves Jesus more than you is what you ...
