When is your mind normal?
Most people struggle in
the area of keeping the mind in the right condition and I am not an exception.
We know we need to think positive but we get tempted to slide back and engage
our minds in criticism, worry, anxiety, wrong imaginations, among others. It is
important to know that whatever the measure of our thoughts we reap the same. ‘As a man thinketh in his heart so is he’ (Proverbs
23:7). Everything starts in the mind before manifesting physically.
Our
thoughts become our words, and our words become our actions. Our words create
our world. The kind of life we live portrays the kind of words we speak, which
is dictated with the kind of thoughts we think. So, what is the right condition
of your mind? We need to have the mind of Christ. What would Jesus think?
“Finally, brothers,
whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are
just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are
of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about
these things”- Philippians 4:8
According to Philippians
4:8 above below are the things we need to think about always:
Things
that are true-Things are factual, right, correct, in
accordance with the facts, what actually happened, genuine, authentic, and real.
The opposite of this would be things that are deceptive, dishonest, false,
misleading, lying, insincere, incorrect, inaccurate, improper, unreal,
untrustworthy, corrupt, unfair, evil etc.
Things
that are honorable- Things that are moral, descent, worth, honest,
upright, normal, good and fair. The opposite of this would be things that are
bad, corrupt, devious, immoral, dishonest, deceptive, unjust, irresponsible, and
unethical.
Things
that are just- These are things that are blameless,
decent, ethical, fair minded, non-discriminatory, non-partisan, unbiased. The
opposite of this would be things that are unfair, unjustified, partisan, one-sided,
inequitable, biased, prejudiced and wrongful.
Things
that are pure- These are things that are clean,
unpolluted, untainted, transparent, perfect, and authentic. The opposite of
this would be things that are corrupted, polluted, rotted, dirty, impaired and
decayed.
Things
that are lovely- These are things that are divine,
attractive, beautiful, captivating, pleasant, graceful, pleasing, delightful.
The opposite of this would be things that are disagreeable, horrible, insignificant,
ugly, undesirable, unhappy, unpleasant and unfriendly.
Things
that are of good report- These are things that carry good
news, are good to the ear and to the heart. The opposite would be things that
reflect bad news.
Things
of virtue- These are things of love, purity, righteousness,
value, kindness, generosity, faith, ethic, excellence, character, merit,
quality, morality and of advantage. The opposite of this would be things that
are evil, imperfection, meanness, dishonesty and of disadvantage.
Things
of praise- These are things that are of admiration, approval,
recognition, cheer, appreciation, devotion, glory, ovation etc. The opposite
would be things that are of blame, silence, neglect, disapproval, criticism,
and censure.
It
is my prayer that we will train our mind to think things that are true,
honorable, just, pure, lovely, of good report and of praise. Every time we are
tempted to think otherwise we will switch our mind to the above by the help of
the Holy Spirit until it becomes a lifestyle, and negative thoughts will
completely be erased from our lives in Jesus name.
